Trusting God Through Struggles: Seeing His Provision When Life Feels Uncertain

How many of us have stood in that space between what we need and what we see, just wondering if God is going to show up? Can I tell you something honest? Trusting God through struggles is not about pretending we have it all together. It's about recognizing our need and looking for His hand right in the middle. In our latest podcast episode, we talked all about those moments when money runs low, anxiety runs high, and faith feels like the only thing you have left, Building authentic community can carry you through adversity.

Let me tell you, I've been there. You hear the bills hit the mailbox. You see the numbers flash on bank apps. That ache of not knowing what's next? It’s common, and gratitude practices can renew hope in difficult seasons. But here’s the beauty: trusting God through struggles doesn’t mean never feeling fear. It means bringing that fear straight to Him—no filter, no pretending. We all walk through seasons of uncertainty, but God’s goodness is not limited by our circumstances. I believe with all my heart that if you’re breathing, God is providing, trusting God through waiting. It might not look the way you thought it would, but He is faithful in every season; see Finding God in Hard Times.

Why Does Trusting God Through Struggles Feel So Hard Sometimes?

Let’s be real. Trusting God through struggles feels tough. Why? Because we want control. We want guarantees. Most of us didn’t grow up seeing money just fall out of the sky (if you did, you’re officially invited to coffee). I remember talking to a friend who left her steady job, hoping to see her dreams and faith grow. Goodness, did the struggles come. Sales dried up. Bills didn’t stop coming. But God’s provision didn’t stop either. Sometimes it was right at the last hour, but it always came.

Even as I write this, I know some of you are living with unanswered prayers. That is so real. But trusting God through struggles is not a formula. It’s a daily, vulnerable choice to say, “Lord, I trust you. Even in this.” We all have stories of moments when things felt impossible—then God made a way. In our community, this happens more than you think. We lean on each other, pray together, and watch God multiply what little we surrender.

Where Is God When Finances Are Tight?

This is a question that comes up a lot. I have wrestled with it myself. Does God care about my bills? Is He paying attention to my overdraft makes my stomach twist? The answer, always, is yes. God cares. In Philippians 4:6 (CSB) it says, “Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” That means your bills, your fridge, the cost of rent. Not a single thing you’re facing today is too small or too big for Him.

Sometimes His answers come surprisingly. I have seen it in my own life—an unexpected check, groceries from a neighbor, a job offer that fit just right. But many times, the provision isn’t just about money. Sometimes it’s peace. Sometimes it’s strength to take a breath and keep showing up. Other times, it’s an idea or an opportunity you weren’t looking for. He’s always present, even when your timeline says He’s late.

How Can I Trust God When I Feel Anxious or Afraid?

If I could look you in the eyes right now, I would. Because this part isn’t about having the right answer. It’s about being honest. Are you feeling anxious about a financial struggle? Are you wondering how to keep trusting God through struggles that don’t seem to end? Me too, more times than I’d like to admit.

  • Take your anxiety to God in prayer (out loud if you have to)
  • Remind yourself of who He is—read stories of His faithfulness in Scripture
  • Pause the noise (phones, social media, even your own internal dialogue)
  • Ask for wisdom and clarity, not just a quick fix
  • Pay attention to the peace that comes even when nothing outside has changed

What changed me most wasn’t one miracle deposit. It was learning to go back, again and again, to God’s word. Letting His promises become my anchor. My favorite place for this lately? The Book of Proverbs. You’ll find so much guidance there—not in a list of impossible rules, but in practical, everyday wisdom.

What Scriptures Help Build Trust in Hard Times?

If you’re looking for something to hold onto, I have a few go-to verses. Philippians 4:6-7 is a big one, and so is Matthew 6:26—the reminder that God feeds the birds, and He cares even more about you. The Book of Proverbs is filled with wisdom about work, diligence, and trust. Try reading one Proverb each day. Ask yourself, "How does this apply to what I’m facing?" Let God’s truth shape the way you see your situation. Keeping gratitude front and center helps too. Thank Him for what you do have, even if it feels small.

Stories of God’s Provision: Real Life in Real Time

I remember a month where it all dried up. No clients booking, no checks coming in, every bill felt heavier. There was a moment I almost quit. I thought maybe God was telling me to move on, that I’d missed something. But I kept trusting God through struggles, because I remembered every single time He had shown up before. I didn’t change my routine. I kept praying, kept hoping. You know what happened? Right at the last minute, a bigger opportunity than I expected landed in my lap. Was it flashy? Nope. Was it enough? More than enough. And it was so clear it was from Him, not from something I could force or hustle my way into.

Maybe your story looks different. Maybe it’s not a job, but someone bringing groceries. Or a kind word right when your heart needed it. Or that unexplained peace that covers you like a blanket. If you’ve seen God’s provision in hard times, your story matters. This is what community is all about. We build each other up by sharing these moments.

Honestly Assessing: Is It Time to Act or Wait?

Do you ever wonder, "Am I supposed to pivot, or hold on and keep trusting?" Welcome to the club. Discernment is key. Here’s what helps me:

  • Pause and pray before reacting
  • Ask, "What is actually true about God’s heart for me?"
  • Get quiet enough to listen (outside if you can, away from all the noise)
  • Look for that holy peace, even if your mind comes up with all the reasons it won’t work

If it’s peace you feel—even with the discomfort—it might just be God’s nudge to keep going. If you sense a gentle push to move in a new direction, ask Him to confirm it. Give yourself room to be led step by step, instead of expecting the whole plan at once.

Trusted Steps for Trusting God Through Struggles (And What to Do Next)

Let’s keep this practical. Trust is a muscle. We build it over time. Here are some things that help me (and maybe will help you too):

  • Write down every time you see God provide, even in small ways
  • Read at least one Scripture daily that reminds you of God’s faithfulness
  • Pray with a friend, or ask your community group to pray with you
  • Keep a gratitude list for what is working, even if it feels tiny
  • Repeat God’s promises out loud: “You will supply all my needs. You are my provider.”
  • If you mess up or let fear in, start over with grace—God isn’t keeping score
  • Share your story with someone who needs hope (because it lifts us all when you do)

Sometimes the struggle is what makes the story beautiful. It’s not about things looking perfect. It’s about seeing the evidence of God’s goodness in our real, ordinary lives.

Friend, trusting God through struggles does not mean we stop working or never feel anxious. It means we let God meet us in our need, again and again. He provides. He surprises. He holds you up when you feel like you’re falling. Let’s look for His provision—right here, right now. If you’re finding yourself in a hard spot, you’re not alone. Our community is made for sharing these stories and lifting each other up.
